GuestI love browsing Etsy for gifts and home decor, but with so many shops popping up, I sometimes hesitate to click “buy.” What are your personal tips for spotting legit sellers vs. questionable ones? Do reviews tell the full story, or have you been burned before?

GuestI always check how long the shop has been open and whether it has consistent reviews with photos. Bonus points if they’re tagged as a “Star Seller.” I also message the shop owner with a quick question—if they respond thoughtfully, it gives me peace of mind before ordering.

GuestI recently questioned a seller after a necklace I ordered looked nothing like the photo. That’s when I started wondering, is Etsy a scam sometimes? I dug deeper and found this article with real experiences https://help-center.pissedconsumer.com/etsy-scams-targeting-you-daily-how-to-stay-safe/ . It helped me realize it’s not about Etsy being bad, it’s about bad actors using the platform. Now I always read both recent and older reviews, check for original product photos, and pay with a protected method like PayPal. I still love Etsy, but I shop with more caution, especially during holidays when scammy shops seem to pop up more often.

GuestYes, running a shop has always been a challenge. Reputation management is one thing. Another thing was a few things that I could only implement on my own website. I used to live in the illusion that a third party would be a golden mine for me, but in reality they lacked certain marketing features that I needed. So after I set up my website, I will need solidgate.com to have payment acquiring installed. Of course, I will have to promote my blog too. But if you think that you won’t need to promote a third-party shop, better think again.
