Hi everyone,
I’ve been making resin casts for a while and wanted to share a few things that helped me get longer-lasting silicone molds. Choosing a silicone with good tear strength makes a big difference, especially for detailed pieces. I also always use a thin layer of mold release—it really helps prevent sticking and keeps the mold in good shape.
For bigger or flexible molds, adding a rigid support shell has saved me from Crazy Cattle 3D a lot of deformation issues. I’ve learned that giving the silicone enough time to fully cure is crucial; rushing the process often leads to tears or misshapen casts. Finally, storing molds away from sunlight and extreme temperatures seems simple, but it noticeably increases their lifespan.

The rigid support shell tip is underrated, especially for molds with thin walls. Photographing each cast and comparing over time makes it easy to spot when surface detail starts degrading before you get a bad pull.
