Hi everyone!
I’m a Pre-U Design student doing resistant materials, and for my final project i’m making a resin and wood dining table. I have figured out proportions and most of the design, however before creating my final development wanted to tap into your knowledge! It would be great if anyone could answer any of these questions AND perhaps just give me your best tips on projects of this size?
1. Do you think the best way to attach wooden legs to the wood and resin top, is to attach the legs to the wood, prior to the resin pouring?
2. I’ve struggled in the past with resin projects, with cracking of the final project, i think due to the exothermic reaction. Any tip on how to avoid the cracks?
3. How thick do you think my resin top should be?
4. Best ways to finish resin?Any extra info that you think i should have would be so appreciated!!!

Hi Sas,
While I haven’t created a wood and resin table myself, when I’ve seen other woodworkers make a resin table, I see them make the top first, then attach the legs.
If you pour too much of a resin at once, yes, it will overheat and crack. These articles will help with advice on how to handle this:

https://resinobsession.com/resin-resin-resin/deep-pour-resin-casting-tips/The Resin Obsession deep pour epoxy resin works great for a project like this. You can pour it up to two inches thick in one pour. You can buy it in our store here: https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-deep-pour-resin
As for finishing, you will likely need to sand and polish the resin. These articles will help:
