      This question comes from Kait:

I pulled my epoxy resin coaster out of the silicone mold and I now need to add another layer of epoxy. Is there a way to recreate the seal between the silicone and epoxy so I don’t get epoxy seeping into the sides?

      Hi Kait,

You can put the coaster back in the mold, but unfortunately, some resin is going to seep in between the coaster and the mold. Do you simply need to add a layer of resin to create a glossy finish? If so, you can use a doming resin and create a glossy layer like shown in this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrVj4JSpPzI

I need to add the resin to cover up some shells that floated to the surface, the current finish is glossy

If the shells are only sticking up a little bit, I would dome another layer of resin. For me anyways, it would be easier to do that rather than deal with drips that come around the edge from trying to get cast while back in the mold.

You could also run a piece of masking tape around the edge and pour another layer of resin. Once the resin has cured, you can peel away the tape. You will need to finish the edge, however, as there will be a matte finish. You can see what I’m talking about in this blog post: https://www.resinobsession.com/resin-resin-resin/resin-casting-with-backless-bezels
