This question comes from Jan:
I work as an orthopedic technician and build prostheses and orthoses in carbon fiber. I want to be able to add that “little extra” in jobs from times to time. In this connection, I began to think a little on the possibilities of implementing the techniques and tricks used to paint cars, but without having to go through the entire painting process. I am therefore looking for color pigments, pearls effects, flakes, etc. which can be mixed directly into the epoxy I use to cast the products for my clients with.
Initially, I was looking for color pigments which can be mixed into epoxy and which can recreate the “candy pearl effect from car painter World” – a transparent color epoxy. The color shines up when it receives direct light, while in the shadow areas will be more transparent so that one can see the pattern of carbon fiber lies beneath.
The project I’d like to try out some of these techniques with, is for a little boy who must use orthosis. He is a very big fan of Spiderman, so I would need both a red and a blue candy pearl effect.
Do you have what I need to replicate this effect in Epoxy?

Hi Jan,
We do have the products that will let you create a transparent effect and pearl effect. They can be found here along with examples of what to expect when using them:
https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/colorants/products/resin-obsession-transparent-color-pigments-single-1-ounce-colors
https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/colorants/products/pearl-powder-colorantThe tricky part is that I don’t have a good way for you to keep the color transparent when not in direct sunlight. You may have to experiment pouring this in layers. I don’t know if it would be better to pour in a layer of color with pearl powder, then pour a layer of transparent over it or vice versa. I would love to see pictures of what you come up with.
