I wonder if you could recommend a round mold and a casting product for me to encase a 3.5 inch butterfly? I am a beginner with not a clue as to what to do or where to start or what products I really need. Thank you.

For what you want to do, the Resin Obsession super clear resin works well. It is meant to go in molds and cures crystal clear. You can find it in several sizes in our store here:

As for the mold, I think this square plastic mold will work great:
https://shop.resinobsession.com/products/square-base-mold-584 . It is 4 inches in diameter which should enclose your butterfly.

You will also need mixing cups, stirring utensils, gloves and mold release. You can find them all here:
