With little to lose I’m probably just going to try a piece and see what happens, but I wondered if anyone had ever tried adding epoxy clay onto a cured epoxy resin piece. Will the two bond as well as pouring another layer of resin onto a cured piece does, or do I need to rough up the surface to give it something to grip?

I have some lovely gem and crystal-shaped pendant molds, but when cured obviously they have a cupped area in the back where the opening in the mold was. I had an idea to make that spot into a feature by packing it with epoxy clay and paving it with Swarovski crystals and/or semiprecious gemstone chips.

Anyone combined these two? Tricks, tips, or warnings to share?

I would expect it to do fine. You shouldn’t need to rough up the surface first.
