Ive been working on trying to make these resin pieces. They are a combination of wood and Polyester resin. Their cast in a big block and then using bandsaw and bench sander they get whittled down to their current size. It?s kind of fun because you have no idea what youre going to end up with.
The trouble is finishing them. I sand them down to 1500 grit and then try to polish them to a semi gloss. This works sometimes and sometimes it does not. The problem is that to get them to be polished up the piece has to be dead flat. The problem arises during sanding. The resin gets warm and leaves finger indentations that you cant see until the final polishing takes place. If theres a flaw then you have to start the whole sending process over again. The thinner the peace the less likely youre going to be successful. Im trying to figure out what I can top this with that will work with the resin, I dont necessarily want it to look like its plastic.
Any suggestions?
