This question came through email by Jo:
I do have a question
about polishing resin and I have been going through all sanding and polishing
tutorials and reading comments all round and still cant find something that
worked. I hope you can spare some time to give me some guidance as I am fairly
new to resin-ing and would greatly appreciate your help. The most problematic issue is with using clear molds like those polyethelene
bangle molds, jewelery shape moulds. They are not exactly glossy smooth on the
surface when popped out.
1) I tried sanding more geometric shapes but hearts and cabochons are
impossible to do.
2) I tried novus but its not abrasive enough i guess as i was rubbing for
ages.
3) I have a Proxxon/Dremel tool with a small cloth wheel – also it couldnt
shine.
4) I read about dipping a coat of resin after – it beaded all over the cabochon
and left drip marks at the bottom.
5) I tried a gloss coat (somewhat like a floor varnish) on it but it feels a
little tacky and can be scraped off even when hardened and dried.I see many similar shaped pieces on etsy (presumably from the exact same mold
sets) and they are all glossy and pretty and mine, i can hardly see the glitter
effect through that surface. I really dont know how to go about it and I
really would like your advise.I would also really like to ask if sanding is the only way to go?

Hi Jo! The product I recommend (which we also sell) is the Castin Craft Gloss Resin Sealer spray. You can use it on your cured bangles.

You have to try the Resin Spray! I know it was recommended by Katherine, but I had to agree! Try it! Good luck! :0)

I generally use Envirotex Easy Cast and their Resin spray. My stuff still turns out slightly matte-ish and occassionally tacky. What am I doing wrong? Is there a particular brand of spray youd recommend? Im so frustrated. I have such beautiful bangles but I cant finish them!

Kristi,
Is your resin completely cured before using the spray?
Are
you in a humid climate? I know here in FL (lots of humidity), it can
be a couple of extra days drying. I just apply a very light coat then
go over it again if necessary. You might also try brushing the
resin spray onto your piece. Spray lightly, then spray some onto a
piece of wax paper. (It will puddle.) Use a brush to brush it onto
your bracelet. -
