Hi,

I am totally new to the art of resin, I saw these resin ak47’s with flowers in them and it instantly sparked my interest and would like to start it as a hobby, From what I read in forums all I seem to see is topics about small projects. How can I go about doing? From the molding to casting? I realize I am asking a lot but any help is appreciated.

You are going to have to start by making a two part mold of an AK 47. Do you have access to one?

I appreciate your reply, I was thinking of buying a toy model Ak47 made from Plasitc I guess? And make a silicone mold from it and then cast the resin?

My main concerns were what resin type should I use if I want it to be crystal clear so you can see the encapsulated flowers and insects? Also if I should use “Cataylst” and how much of it?

Appreciate your help very much! As this is something I very interested in and would like to invest my time to learn it!

First, you will need to make a mold of your AK47. A two part mold is essential here.

As for the resin, it depends on the size of your casting. How big do you anticipate this casting to be?

How would I determine the size or the amount of resin I would need? As this would be my first project i’m still a little lost on how to calculate that.

While an AK47 is not a simple shape, they formulas should help you estimate how much resin you might need for this. Once you get an idea how much resin you need, I can give you some suggestions as to the resin you should use.
