Hello,

I am looking to make 2 large custom lego mini figures from Lego’s silicone cake mold. URL below. I would then paint one to look like captain America and one to look like hulk for my sons bedrooms.

I have never done anything resin before. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Including an answer to the below questions and maybe a link to a recommended how to video that is close to what I’m doing.

Why resin should I use?
How much do I need?
Do I need to spray the mold with some kind of grease first?
Can I do the pour all at once or in stages?
What paint should I use?
How should I apply? (Is brush okay or will that look bad)

Hi Mike,

For a project like this, you want to use the Resin Obsession deep pour epoxy. You can mix up to 3 gallons and pour it up to two inches thick at once. You can buy it in a couple of sizes in our store here: https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-deep-pour-resin

Yes, a mold release is helpful to making sure your resin comes out as expected. This is the one I like: https://shop.resinobsession.com/products/ultralease-mold-release-specially-formulated-for-epoxy-resin

You can pour all at once provided you don’t pour more than 2 inches thick (if you’re using the Resin Obsession deep pour epoxy).

Would I be able to still use the lego mold for cake after this, or would it not be safe to eat off of?

Hi Mike,

Once you use the mold for resin, you shouldn’t use it for cake again.
