I am having so much frustration with my large pyramid molds. The first one I did was a piece of cake, pouring in stages and it came out like a charm. The next two I did in the same manner – using Art Resin and in places on all sides it was like the mold became a part of the resin and I ruined the mold trying to get it out. What I want to know is, if I get all the silicone from the mold off the piece itself – can I put then put fresh resin on the sides to repair the surface and then put it back into a fresh mold to finish the last part of the pour. I started out with just a small amount of resin for the spire and once that was cured, I continued with approximately 6 oz of resin at a time for continued pours – letting each layer cure before the next. I am actually having this issue with many of my small silicone molds – some of which I purchased from Resin Obsession. I have had to throw away so many molds – thinking that resin art might not be my cup of tea.

Hi Sherry,

I’m sorry to read the frustration in your message. Unfortunately, resin can be tricky sometimes.

Art Resin is not meant for casting and is only meant for pours of 1/8 inch or less. What I suspect is happening is that you are mixing too much resin at once, then pouring it too deep in the mold. This gets things too hot and can make the mold melt into the resin. I’m afraid that once you pull the cured resin out of the mold, putting it back in the mold to do more pours doesn’t work very well.
