Hi. I’m working on a model ship with 5mmx2 rectangular windows and 1.5mm portholes. I want the internals of the ship visible through the windows and have been experimenting with epoxy resin as a filling for the glass. What I want is a smooth surface I don’t need to polish that with be glass clear with no fogging. I’ve tried taping clear plastic to the outside of the window with a couple of different oils to keep the resin from sticking when I pour it into the windows from the inside: 3-in-1, vegetable, and Vaseline. None have worked 100%. I have managed a glass surface, but one edge usually sticks and pulls some of the resin away leaving a divot. Any techniques that will help me?

Have you tried wax? Resin won’t stick to wax.

I have not yet, but considered wax paper before realizing the texture was too rough. I will give rubbing plastic down with a candle a try.
