This question comes through email by Jaymi:

I need to make 6 paperweights for some dried flowers that we have from my dads funeral. I think I want a more modern shape than a dome so Im thinking a 4 or 5" mold- will you let me know which would be good for the thickness? And also what resin should I buy and how much to make 6? And also anything else Id need? Conditioner for the molds?

      Hi Jaymi,

What a nice thing to do!

      Heres what I would suggest:

Our scallop edge mold 909 is approximately 4 1/4 inches in diameter and slightly domed.  I think it would look nice as a paperweight.  https://resinobsession.com/ItemPage/8616/Flower-scallop-Base-mold-909.html  You can demold from it as soon as your resin has reached soft cure, which is approximately 24 hours, depending on your resin.  Since youre looking to make 6, you may want to consider buying more than one mold so you can make them quicker.

You will also need to spray the mold with mold release to make sure the cured resin comes out easily.  https://resinobsession.com/ItemPage/5506/CastinCraft-Mold-Release–Conditioner.html

Since youre putting flowers in the resin, you will need to make sure they are properly sealed first, otherwise they will take up water stains.  I would recommend spraying them with two to three coats of our resin gloss sealer spray before putting them in the resin.  https://resinobsession.com/ItemPage/5510/CastinCraft-Gloss-Resin-Sealer-Spray-760-UPS-Ground-Shipping.html

You have two resin choices to use for this project.  I would suggest either the Castin Craft Easy Cast clear casting epoxy resin or the Resin Obsession super clear resin.  The mold 909 can hold approximately 6 1/2 ounces of resin, so to make 6 of these, you will need at least 39 ounces of resin.  Both of those resins can be found in our clear resin category:  https://resinobsession.com/Clear-Resin.html

You should make sure to have the proper cups, stir utensils and gloves.  They can be found in our tools section under resin craft supplies.  https://resinobsession.com/Resin-Craft-supplies.html

On a side note, since it sounds like you are new to resin, be sure to take a few moments to learn about the resin you choose, how it works, mixes, etc.

      Good luck!
