I normally make resin soap dishes set with small river pebbles. Normally I use a 3×5 plastic mold. A customer has asked me if I can make a 4.5′ x 29″ similar pebble soap dish. She wants something to display several soaps (don’t ask me why). A few questions:
1. How would I make a mold for something like this? I have NO idea.
2. Do you think it would be too fragile because it is so long and thin? I assume I would need to make it thicker than I usually do?
3. Normally I use Easy Cast Clear resin. Would this be OK for a larger project?

Hi Peggy,

What an interesting project! To make a soap dish in the larger size, you will need a mold that size. Since it sounds like you don’t have a mold already like that, you will need to make one. You will need to have a template, then make a mold of that template. In terms of using Easy Cast resin for this project, you will likely be okay. In my opinion, I think when fully cured, this resin is still rather soft. If anything, I would worry about it denting if someone dropped a casting this size on the floor.
