      This question comes through email:

      Resin Obsession:

COuld you please advise me as to an appropriate resin that could be mixed with sand where the finished object will appear to be made out of sand, not resin. I would think that the mix ratio would need to be 1 part resin to 2, 3 or 4 parts sand. I expect this would need to be a very strong resin to be diluted so much. Another requirement would be that the resin imparts on color to the sand, just holds it together.

      Thanks,

      Michael

      Michael,

Any clear epoxy resin should be able to work with this project.  As how much resin to how much sand, I would expect it would depend on how coarse the sand is.  I would suggest doing a couple of practice pieces first.

Here’s a couple of articles showing how to use sand and resin:

Make sure your sand is very dry.  (Let it dry in a warm oven for an hour or so.)  Any moisture will keep your resin from curing.

      Michael,

I also dont know that you will be able to see grains of sand without resin holding it together.
