Hello, this is a weird question but I was thinking I might be able to repair a couple of large chips in a set of car lights with a dark tint resin (I was thinking I could make a mold from the undamaged parts of the lens then shuffle it along the lens to make the mold to fill the gap) The lenses are tinted so I would need a smokey black for it to be a pleasant looking repair? What do you think? How well do resins wear, would they cope with the wear and tear of the elements?

Hi Tim,

I would suggest going with a polyurethane resin to make your replacement pieces.  You could make the mold of the pieces with silicone, or even the silicone mold putty depending on the size of the pieces.
