I’m building a birdbath from wood that has been previously pressure treated with weather proofing chemicals. So, I need a resin that is:

1 – clear and will not change color due to prolonged sunlight exposure
2 – non-toxic to all wildlife (long contact food grade I presume?)
3 – can cope with temperatures in the range -10°C to 50°C (-14°F to 122°F) (approximately)
4 – waterproof and chemically stable (in the sense of keeping the previous wood treatment chemicals in)
5 – durable and long lasting
6 – suitable for shipping to the UK

If requirement (4) can’t be satisfied as I can’t be 100% sure what the wood has been treated with, I can drop this condition and I shall use some untreated wood source.

If anyone can help point me towards a suitable product, our feathered friends will be eternally grateful 🙂

      Hi Chris,

The best solution we have for you is the Alumilite Amazing Clear cast epoxy resin. It is food safe once cured and can ship to you in the UK. You can find it in several sizes in our store here:

I don’t know how well it will do in cold weather. As the wood and resin shrink/expand in cold weather, it may pop off the surface of the wood.

You should also know that all resins are going to yellow with time. Constant UV light exposure speeds up this process. Unfortunately, how long an epoxy will stay clear is difficult to predict.
