      This question comes from Heath:

Hi, I have just started resin casting so I can make my own porn blanks for turning pens. I use a pressure pot during the curing process. I am now looking to use a vacuum chamber to be able stabilise wood to mix with my resin blanks.. I have seen many vacuum kits on the web. My question is: I am an ex butcher by trade and happen to own a professional vacuum packing machine similar to this one: https://henkelman.co.uk/product/jumbo-42-vacuum-packer/?ppc_keyword&gclid=CjwKCAiAqbvTBRAPEiwANEkyCHMdbVxOClgjmV4kaIh2B3crDl16CSfVjTjzW4R74Dtuhi0yHtCyrRoCQlwQAvD_BwE

So you know of anyone that has managed to use I’ve of these as a resin vacuum chamber… ?

      Hi Heath,

I haven’t used a machine like this to vacuum resin and can’t say if it would work. It looks like it is quite expensive as well. You should be able to get a good vacuum chamber set up for resin casting for a third of that price.

On a side note, I don’t find that vacuum casting wood and resin works well. It will bring the bubbles to the surface of the resin, but they usually don’t pop. It stays looking like a glass of foamy beer.

Hi, I already have the large vacuum packing machine. It’s about 40 kilos in weight so expect the pump is quite large. I don’t use it anymore for vacuum packing meat. It seems a shame its just sitting in my garage when I am looking to buy a vacuum pump and vacuum pot 😁. I have a pressure pot for my resin setting but need a vacuum pot for stabilising the wood first. The stabilising resin solution soaks into the wood once the vacuum pulls the air out then wrap the wood in foil and place in an oven to set the resin.. 👍

Hmm. Sounds like it’s worth a try. I don’t know, however, if the walls will collapse in on themselves. It can take a lot of vacuum to get bubbles out of large pieces.
