Hello! Im fairing new to resin, I actually just made my first bangle (i think, its still in the curing process) and Im waiting to see how that turns out..
Im wanting to make small stud earings. The first thing I tried first was polymer clay, I formed small round flat circles, than tried to poor modge podge 3d to create a dome, this didnt turn out so well, the polymer clay just made it look so cheap and it wasnt even, after it tried i tested how sturdy it was and the mod podge jsut came right off. So Im trying out resin. Some ideas I have are:
      1) I purchased small round silicone molds, I can pour resin into the molds and add gliter or whatever else I want to it, let it try some, than add the back and poor reson to seal that in (or should I add the back immediatly after pouring?) also would I have to let it sit a little bit before adding my items?
      2) Try the polymer clay option again, maybe this time making the circle base better and using the resin for the dome.
      3) Take earring studs, modpodge the image or glitter and use resin to dome over that.

Has anyone done this before? Or would anyone know if these things would work?

      Thanks.

      Hi Sierra,

I think you will like polymer clay and resin!

For option 1, adding your items in depends on what you want them to do.  Many items will sink, which means they will move to the bottom (front) of your casting.  If that’s what you want, then you will be fine.  If you don’t want that, then you will need to pour your resin in a couple of layers and add your items in that way.  I would suggest gluing your posts on after the resin circles have cured.  You can either use a dot of another batch of freshly mixed resin or some e-6000 adhesive. You can find it in our store here: https://shop.resinobsession.com/products/e-6000-epoxy-jewelry-adhesive

For option 2, you should be able to dome resin on the top of your polymer clay buttons.  I like the Resin Obsession crystal doming resin — https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-crystal-doming-resin

We also have a tutorial on our blog showing how to make a polymer clay and resin pendant — https://resinobsession.com/resin-tutorials/tarot-card-pendant/

For option 3, I don’t have any experience with polymer clay, but the mod podge seems like an extra step.  I think you will be fine with just resin.

      Good luck!
