I’m about to move out of my rental and I’m really stressed about the end-of-lease cleaning. I’ve heard it’s super important to get everything just right to ensure I get my bond back, but I’m not sure where to start. Does anyone have a checklist or some tips that could help? I don’t want to miss anything, but also don’t want to waste time cleaning things that aren’t necessary.

It’s totally understandable to be stressed – the cleaning checklist can get overwhelming. Here’s a general guide: Start with the kitchen, as that’s where landlords tend to focus most. Clean the stove, oven, and exhaust fan thoroughly. Don’t forget to wipe down the inside of cabinets and the refrigerator. Moving on to the bathrooms, make sure to scrub the tiles, clean the toilet, and wipe down mirrors and all surfaces. Then, focus on the floors and carpets, making sure they’re spotless. It’s easy to miss details like cleaning behind appliances or dusting light fixtures. I agree with all of that! Another thing to remember is to clean windows inside and out if you can. Sometimes it’s the little things like wiping down the door frames or dusting ceiling fans that can make a difference. It’s always a good idea to double-check the lease to see if there are any specific cleaning requirements your landlord might have.
