      Hi!
I am essentially trying to embed plastic figures in a 7x7x7in cube. I’m looking for a crystal clear result with no bubbles and I have read up and watched many videos about using resin. I have found a video about making a mold for resin with melamine coated particle board and would like your opinion on it.

I have also read about soft spots, any suggestions for what kind of resin would cure completely solid and clear? Please let me know any tips to avoid these types of problems and if resin would be the correct substance to use for this project. Thank you so much!!

      Hi Megan,

It sounds like you have a clear focus for your project. That’s half the battle!

Melamine board might work. If you want to try, use a good mold release first. The Petrolease mold release in our store is what I would use: https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/tools-and-supplies/products/petrolease-non-silicone-food-grade-mold-release

As for the resin itself, the Resin Obsession super clear resin would work well for this. You can find it in several sizes in our store here: https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession . You can see how I used it in a similar project: https://resinobsession.com/resin-tutorials/steampunk-crafts

Since you are new to resin, these beginner articles should help you as well: https://resinobsession.com/tag/beginner . They will give you tips and tricks to make sure you have resin casting success.

      Good luck!
