Hey everyone! I’ve been thinking about redoing my living room, and I’m considering putting up some new wallpaper. I’ve never done it before though, and I’m not sure if I should try it myself or just hire someone. I’ve heard it’s a bit tricky, especially with the seams and getting the pattern aligned. Any tips?

Hey! I’ve done a few rooms myself, and honestly, it’s not too bad if you take your time. The hardest part is probably getting the first strip straight. I found a pretty useful guide on Wikipedia about wallpapering techniques: Wallpaper – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallpaper. It covers all the basics from prep to hanging. But yeah, the first row is key! After that, it gets easier.

I’ve heard that pre-pasted wallpaper can make the job a bit easier, especially for beginners. What do you guys think about that? I did a small accent wall last year with pre-pasted stuff, and it was honestly not too bad. You just wet the back, and you’re good to go.

I was actually looking at some pre-pasted options, but I’m worried about the quality. Do you think it holds up well long-term? I’ve heard some people say it peels or bubbles after a while.

@enthusiast92, it really depends on the brand and the surface you’re applying it to. I’d recommend doing a test run with a small piece before committing to the whole wall. Also, make sure the walls are clean and smooth—those are the biggest things for avoiding peeling or bubbles. If you’re still nervous, I’ve read that you can get a pro to do a quick consultation before you start. I found this site with some info on local installers: wallpaper installers in Philadelphia https://bestwallpaperinstaller.com/locations/wallpaper-installer-philadelphia/.They have some great advice on prep and types of wallpaper.
