I’m working on a project that needs to come out perfect, and I thought I knew how to do it – I was wrong!
I’ve made several models (of a baby monster) out of Apoxie Sculpt, painted with acrylic paints and covered in multiple coats of liquid latex (to give it a slimy, gooey look. The end product should resemble a “wet specimen,” like a weird fetal animal floating in a jar of formaldehyde, found in a mad scientist’s back room. I had thought to fill the jar partway with slightly tinted resin, settle the bottom half of the creature into it, and then fill the jar the rest of the way with more resin. I did a small trial run tonight (using a jar that is about 1/10th the size of the final ones), and the Resin started smoking and getting super hot. (I put the jar outside, just in case). I’ve had this happen when I mix too much resin at once, so maybe I just didn’t wait enough time between batches? I just can’t have a “seam” dividing the levels. Please help! My final jars will be about 2/3 gallon size, and the occupant should take up about 1/2 of the volume. I was using RO Super Clear 2-part resin, but I also have some Better Boat Epoxy Resin I was going to try (it just tends to have lots more bubbles, which I’d like to avoid if possible). Any suggestions or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
I need to have these finished by mid-January, when my husband’s debut novel (horror, in case you can’t guess) is released.
