How To Fix A Resin Edge In 3 Easy Steps

how to fix a resin edge without sandingLet’s get real for a moment. Things don’t always go as planned when creating with resin. Like when making a resin bracelet.  Sometimes, you’ll get a resin edge that needs finishing. Now I don’t know about you, but I dislike sanding. Like REALLY dislike sanding. And if you’re like me, you’ll like this trick of how to fix a resin edge WITHOUT sanding.

Why do resin edges happen?

First, it’s normal when you use a resin mold to get an edge on your resin pieces. It comes from the resin shrinking while it cools. When you pour the resin into your mold, it sticks to the sides of the mold. Then, as it cools, that center part shrinks. But, the resin on the side of the mold stays there. And for you resin nerds — it’s a physics surface tension thing.

So while it’s normal, you want to do something about it. In the case of this bracelet, the edge is sharp, which makes it uncomfortable to wear.

How do you fix a resin edge?

One way is to sand the resin edge and make it smooth. But there’s a problem. You won’t have a perfectly even bracelet on both sides. Instead, one side will be rounded, but the other side will be flat.

The other way is to use the edge to your advantage. And you’ll do that with the Resin Obsession crystal doming resin.

Step 1: Mix Resin Obsession crystal doming resin.

This resin mixes one to one by volume, and it mixes thick. (You’ll see why that’s important.) Plus, you get a 45-minute working time for this resin.

Step 2: Dot resin in the divot.

Because this resin mixes thick, the edge contains it to the trough in the center. Use a toothpick to dot resin in the center of this trough carefully.

⭐️ Pro tip: Don’t pour the resin. If you add too much, it will overflow, and you’ll have an even bigger mess to clean up.

Step 3: Check for bubbles

Make sure your resin is bubble-free before setting it aside to cure. This takes 24 hours.

You can see how the crystal doming resin filled in the divot. And it’s BETTER THAN SANDING. And for both of you who like sanding resin, go for it. 🤣
