This is my first project with resin. I want to suspend a piece of sandstone in the middle of resin to make an ornament. Do I pour a thin layer first, and once that’s cured, lay the sandstone on it and then pour another layer on top of the sandstone? Will the two pours stick together or will they fall apart? Or should I just pour the entire amount and push the stone in? Also, how can I make a hole in the resin to attach the hook for hanging? I want to use the square paperweight mold 436. I could also use your recommendation for what type of resin to use. Thank you for any advice you can give.

To suspend your sandstone in the resin, you will need to pour in layers. Pour your first layer of resin and wait for it to partially to fully cure before adding the sandstone. Then, pour your next layer. You can see what I’m talking about in this article:

To make a hole for a hook, you can drill the resin once it has fully cured. I show a way to do that here:
Since you are casting in a mold, I recommend the Resin Obsession super clear resin. It cures crystal clear and is meant for molds. If you are careful in mixing, bubbles are almost never a problem. We have it in several sizes in our store here:
