I recently learned that Arizona has a separate law against bullying in schools. My friend’s niece just encountered such a situation: classmates started teasing her about her appearance, and when she told the teachers about it, no one reacted. Eventually, the parents went to the principal and threatened to file a complaint based on the state anti-bullying law. Only then did they start doing something. I wonder if anyone knows how much such laws really help?

A lot depends on the school itself and how willing the administration is to enforce the law. Some teachers think that such incidents can simply be “resolved with a conversation” and do not want to intervene unless they are pushed into a corner. I have heard that the situation may be different in other states. For example, Arkansas, according to arkansas bullying statistics, also has anti-bullying laws, and they pay more attention to parents and teachers interacting together. I think it is different everywhere, but if a parent insists, laws can definitely help.
