Resin in metal

      Hi, I have some machine parts (sockets and anvils) and I’d like to fill the crater/holes with resin. The parts are mostly steel and range in size up to 4″ deep by 4″ round. I don’t want the machine part to be a mold but as part of the final project. I’d like to try out a few different ideas: swirling colors, champagne effect, and so on.

      Hi Angela, so that I’m clear, you want to fill the holes, voids, etc., in the parts with resin, not necessarily encase the entire piece in resin?

      Yes, that’s exactly right. The metal is cylindrical, open on top and bottom and is like to fill the cavity.

      Hi Angela,

      First, you are going to have to seal off the voids with tape. You can see what I’m talking about in this tutorial: https://www.resinobsession.com/resin-tutorials/how-to-use-resin-in-open-bezels

      For a champagne effect, whisk the resin before pouring. You will introduce a bunch of bubbles that will hopefully stay during the process. This will be more likely if you use a doming resin for this project.
