So, I have an old wooden foot locker of my father’s from WWII. It has a decal on the inside of the lid which, over time, has cracked, had some peeling, but is mostly there. I want to preserve it with some type of resin or epoxy. As far as ‘sealing’ the paper decal with clear drying glue (or other product), the decal is already adhered to the wood (except for the pieces/peelings – which we have most of them). I am concerned about the color being damaged during the process, so I need to know if you’ve ever worked with something this old – will sealing just the surface (not back) of the decal work just as well? Any tips?
      Thanks

      Hi Lisa,

Unfortunately, I have not worked with anything this old. It’s hard to say without seeing the decal whether or not resin would damage it.

If you’re interested, I do Zoom consultations. They are 15 minutes and cost $20. By being able to see the decal, I can give you my best advice on how I would go about sealing it and whether or not resin would damage the decal.
