Hi there, I am new to resin.

I have been doodling with Sharpies on ceramic tile, coating with Kamar Varnish and then using Envirotex Lite resin to finish.

However, certain colors such as teal or dark purple tend to lift (as in it looks like the ink is being suspended in the resin) or changes color and becomes much lighter – not the color I started with.

I mix the resin as per instructions as well.

Has anyone had this happen? What can I do

      Thanks!

      Hi Ananda,

This can happen with alcohol-based colors. You need to bake them onto the tile.

      Thanks Katherine,

So if I choose not to bake then varnish and the like won’t help at all?

I find it strange that it happens with sharpie but not alcohol inks (I’ve tried that too).

      Thanks!

This isn’t my area of expertise. I can’t say for sure whether or not baking will make a difference.
