Working on model railroad and looking to model a harbor scene. One method for the water is a resin pour from Woodland Scenics. At 3/8″ deep it would require approx. 73 oz which runs about $180 through Woodland. At 1/2″ depth, approx 98 oz, or over $250. As such looking for other alternatives, such as Resin Obsessions products that seem much more reasonable price-wise. I was in a hobby store and the salesperson was saying that to model a water ripple effect pour a layer of resin, lay down a previously crumpled sheet of saran wrap, and pour another layer of resin over this. Has anyone tried this before and have any tips? Would probably also tint the water slightly with blue or teal transparent. The water cavity has been sealed with Woodland Scenics 100% acrylic water undercoat paints.
